Why an index?

Local commerce deserves a clearer picture of itself.

Business information is scattered across maps, websites, directories, social platforms, and public datasets. When those sources are incomplete or disagree, customers struggle—and AI systems repeat the confusion.

The Index turns those fragmented signals into comparable research for businesses, neighborhoods, cities, researchers, and the organizations working to strengthen them.

What we measure

Five dimensions of trustworthy local business knowledge.

Every published score will be traceable to a documented method, measurement date, and source type.

01

Completeness

How much useful business information is present across the sources customers and machines depend on.

02

Freshness

How recently essential facts were checked, updated, or verified against current business reality.

03

Consistency

How closely names, locations, contact details, categories, and other facts agree across platforms.

04

AI visibility

How clearly a business can be discovered, understood, and represented by AI and search systems.

05

Verification

Which facts are evidence-backed, which are public-source observations, and which remain inferred.
